DEAR FATHER, DO NOT SACRIFICE PROPHECY FOR PLEASURE
A man walked into the church office one evening. He came to ask about what we do there. I explained that we are a church. We just started then. We chatted a bit about what the Lord has sent us to do. He prayed and said, “The Lord will help you accomplish the vision”. He walked out and then went to drink in a bar close by. He was a regular visitor there.
After he left, someone said, “Pastor, his son is one of those who sit in front of the church to smoke and to drink. He is one of those we are trusting for their salvation”. I knew immediately where his son inherited the pattern from. It was from his Dad.
There was a prophecy of kingship and rulership over Judah:
Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise…Thy father’s children shall bow down before thee. The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh come; And unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
Genesis 49:8, 10 KJV
However, Judah, in his low moment, slept with his daughter-in-law. He only wanted some sexual fulfilment after losing his wife.
Genesis 38:18b NIV
He said, “What pledge should I give you?” “Your seal and its cord, and the staff in your hand,” she answered. So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him.
Do you remember that the first king of Israel was from Benjamin and not Judah?
Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power.
1 Samuel 9:1 KJV
Why did that happen? There was a statute that a bastard could not enter into the congregation of the Lord until the tenth generation..
A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD. Deuteronomy 23:2 KJV
The sons Tamar had for her father-in-law, Judah, were bastards. Now let us see the tenth generation from them (Matthew 1:2-6)
1. Judah, the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar,
2. Perez, the father of Hezron,
3. Hezron, the father of Ram,
4. Ram, the father of Amminadab,
5. Amminadab, the father of Nahshon,
6. Nahshon, the father of Salmon,
7. Salmon, the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab,
8. Boaz, the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth,
9. Obed, the father of Jesse, and
10. Jesse, the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
Matthew 1:2-6 NIV
The tenth from them was David.
One act of pleasure denied ten generations of kingship and rulership.
Dear Father, what must you deal with today that might become a generational battle? Is it anger? Is it lust? What is it! Kill it today.
