DEAR FATHER, STAND AS THE PRIEST

DEAR FATHER, STAND AS THE PRIEST

In January 1990, the doctor told my dad that his wife of 10 years had just given up on the operating table, even before the procedure could begin. His response till date remains a testimony of faith and strength.

He said, “I did not come here with a dead spouse, and I am not going back to Eruwa with a dead spouse”. He prayed. He sang. He stayed through. He even helped another person take care of her son, who came for treatment.  What a mind!

Seven hours later, death rolled away.

Seven hours later, life took over.

They are both alive today, thirty-five years later.

What a priest!

What a life!!

Dear Father, if there is one role you cannot joke with, it is that of a priest. As a priest, you must have an altar. Be an altar builder.  Abraham, our example of faith, was an altar builder. Isaac raised altars. Jacob raised altars. How do you think you will survive without one?

Genesis 12:7 NLT

Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” And Abram built an altar there and dedicated it to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

Genesis 26:25 NLT

Then Isaac built an altar there and worshiped the Lord. He set up his camp at that place, and his servants dug another well.

Genesis 35:7 NLT

Jacob built an altar there and named the place El-bethel (which means “God of Bethel”), because God had appeared to him there when he was fleeing from his brother, Esau.

Do not be like Lot. Lot learnt how to make, manage and multiply wealth from Abraham. He had eyes for business opportunities. He knew the stock that would rise. He knew how to “bank land,” but Lot had no altar- he soon lost his family. His wife had no staying faith. She looked back. His daughters had no sound faith- they ‘drugged’ their father and slept with him. He had no altar.

Genesis 19:32 NET

Come, let’s make our father drunk with wine so we can have sexual relations with him and preserve our family line through our father.

Dear Father, we have seen your account, sir. We have seen your steeze, sir. Daddy, we know your favourite club and we see your joy when it is sports, but sir, can we also see your prayer spot where you burst into shouts of joy?

Can you show us your altar, sir? Can you show us where you exercise your priesthood, sir? Can you show us where you raise your worship to the Lord? Can you show us where your knees are buckled in intercession? Can you show us where you settle matters?

Daddy, do you have an altar?

Daddy, we know you are smart. We appreciate your business acumen, but show us the place of “Amen”.

Daddy, if you were to be Jairus, would we find you at the feet of Jesus? Would we find you calling on him? Daddy, please, be our priest. Show us the way of the altar.

Thank you, Daddy.
