THE PATIENT WITH THE GANGRENOUS FOOT
A doctor had to explain to a patient that a gangrenous foot had to be amputated. He told the patient what Jesus said that “And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish than for your whole body to be cast into hell.” Matthew 5:30 NKJV
Whenever he shares the story of how the man’s life would be saved by cutting off one of his legs, it was scary but his sense of humour was undeniable.
There are things in the life of a man that can limit a man on the journey of life of destiny. If such things are not dealt with, such a man will be limited.
Saul was running hard in the wrong direction. On the journey to Damascus, the light that knocked him off his horse also left him blind. But he did not stand up without a sense of vision.
The opposite of faith is not fear, it is sight. We walk by faith and not by sight. If you do not get off your high horse and lose sight of physical limitations, you can never catch let alone run with the vision of God for your life.
Perhaps one man that had “gangrenous” lustful eyes was God’s anointed Samson. Samson’s eyes put him in compromising postures and placed him in ungodly affairs.
Guess what- when the Philistines captured him, the first thing they plucked out was his eyes. After he lost his sight, Samson’s vision was restored. He prayed that God should restore him to fulfil his life calling and assignment.
If you do not deal with your weakness, even if you have a vision, your weakness will drain you of strength to fulfil it. Until the weakness is dealt with, you cannot finish the race of a God-given vision with joy.
When you discover that you are already messing up, cut off that part before it messes up your life and destiny.
This is how what Jesus said is recounted in the Message Version:
“Let’s not pretend this is easier than it really is. If you want to live a morally pure life, here’s what you have to do: You have to blind your right eye the moment you catch it in a lustful leer. You have to choose to live one-eyed or else be dumped on a moral trash pile. And you have to chop off your right hand the moment you notice it raised threateningly. Better a bloody stump than your entire being discarded for good in the dump.” Matthew 5:29 – 30 MSG
I pray: “Lord, may I be able to say like Jesus “It is finished”. May I be able to say like Paul, “I finished with Joy”. May I never have a tone of regret like Samson and ever say, “I am finished”. Lord, help me. Keep me till the end. Let me not after all said and done become a relic in the dustbin of history.
