WHEN IT COMES TO DESTINY…
My grandfather in the faith shared the story of how he and his beloved friend and brother would regularly visit an elderly person anytime they were chanced to be together in the city. It was a regular thing.
As time went on, they realized that they always return with doubts rather than faith, a weakened will to pursue divine vision rather than a strengthened will. However, they kept going out of respect.
One day, on their way to the place, his friend suddenly parked the car and said, “I am not going again. I am turning back here”. He began to encourage his friend that they should still go. He did not want it to look somehow.
His friend leaned over to the passenger side, opened the door and said, “You can get down and keep going. As for me, I am turning back here”. They made a U-turn that day.
He then looked at us in that meeting and said to us, “When it comes to matters of destiny, be brutal”.
One of the questions you must ask yourself regularly is this, “Where do I go that adds the most value to me?” Make a list of such places and people. If I were you, I would prioritise such places. There is no need to be sentimentally attached to places and people that drain you in all areas.
I honestly love the heart of Jonathan. He knew David would be king:
I Samuel 23:16-17 NKJV
[16] Then Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God. [17] And he said to him, “Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Even my father Saul knows that.”
He made a covenant with David but rather than make that tough choice, he returned to his home. He returned to comfort instead of staying with the covenant.
There is no sentiment when destiny is involved. Jonathan was caught in between. He paid with his life. He should not have been on that battlefield.
I Samuel 31:2 NKJV
[2] Then the Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons. And the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons.
Which places add the most value to you?
Which places are you sentimentally attached to?
Deal with it.
