IT IS POSSIBLE TO LIVE ABOVE SIN!

A dear son placed an image on social media, and his friend responded with words that gave glory to God and turned a drug addict into a Christ lover. His story still delights me each time I think about it. 

He was coming to church, but he was still struggling with addiction. He would leave the church to smoke his regular joint. The fact that you go to church does not mean that you know the Lord. I sang in the choir and did not know Jesus Christ! I was lost in my addiction. 

Every sinner is under the control of the devil. It is his spirit that works and controls the sinner. The sinner is his willing tool. Why? The devil is the father of the sinner. He carries the devil’s DNA. 

You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.

Ephesians 2:2 NLT

There are things you will just naturally do. Our children will do certain things, and we will say, “That’s just like me.” Why? They have my nature. 

You will struggle with addiction until you know your victory begins with a changed nature. There will be a change of ways when there is a change of nature. A mango tree can never bring forth orange fruits. 

One day, the young drug addict left the church and realized he could not smoke again. Why? The nature changed. The New Life swallowed that nonsense. If you have touched the life in Christ, sin becomes poison. 

You will struggle with obedience until you have a “heart surgery”: 

And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations. (Ezekiel 36:26-27 NLT)

Without His Spirit, you will debate His instructions and find justification for sin. You will call it fancy names- Sin will become weakness; adultery will become extra-marital affair; fornication will become pre-marital affair or cohabiting; prostitution will be hook-up; lewdness will be called groove; nudity will be called fashion.  And when you are corrected and convicted, you will say, “Stop judging me.”

Lord, give me a new heart and put a new spirit within me! Take away this heart of stone and give me a heart that wants to follow your will. Amen.
