APPRECIATE THE HELP OF GOD

APPRECIATE THE HELP OF GOD

Irewamiri and I were having a conversation. She just mentioned how we had nothing in our living room when we got married. Our seats were improvised- we used to sit on those yellow twenty-five-litre jerry cans.

I still remember our first set of upholstery.  Do you know that after getting comfortable and setting up our first home, God still instructed us to give up as a seed? We moved to a new house and again we had no upholstery.  After a year, we got a living room furniture gift from a Lagos family. It made us grateful and thankful. We appreciated the help of God.

Beloved, you must learn to appreciate the help of God. If you remove the help of the Lord from your life and affairs, what will be left? What do we have that we did not receive?

In the days of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar took a walk and appraised the city. He told himself that he did it by his own hands.

Daniel 4:29-30 NIV

[29] Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, [30] he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?”

He said he built it by his own mighty power and the glory of His Majesty. While he was still speaking, he got his judgement:

Daniel 4:31-32 NIV

[31] Even as the words were on his lips, a voice came from heaven, “This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you. [32] You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes.”

“Until you acknowledge the Most High…” Did you see that? Have you learnt to acknowledge the Most High? Do you think you did it in your own might?

When was his sanity restored? When he learnt to look up to heaven and acknowledge the help of God.

Daniel 4:34 NLT

“After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshipped the Most High and honoured the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal.”

David knew what Nebuchadnezzar did not understand. David knew that he was only being helped and could only be helped by God.

Psalms 121:1-2 NKJV

[1] I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? [2] My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

Solomon also knew the same thing:

Psalms 127:1 NKJV

[1] Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.

Look around you. When last did you appreciate how far God has brought you? When last did you thank God for His hand in your life?
