PRAY FOR YOUR PASTOR (3)
Some few months after hosting our spiritual parents in Eruwa, my spiritual father said to me, “Your people are like a sponge. They drew as much as they could. I had to spend a lot of time on Saturday in prayer so I could be a blessing to our church on Sunday”. I smiled and said thank you profusely. That visit brought a great shift for us as a ministry and even as a family.
First, you must understand that when your pastor teaches, he is dispensing life. It is not and must never be just some form of gymnastics to impress you. God forbid. The words that he speaks must be spirit and life (John 6:63).
Second, he must speak as an oracle and not just as an orator. An oracle is a mouthpiece for God speaking the mind of God on a matter with accuracy, boldness, and clarity. An orator may give you goose pimples of excitement, but an oracle speaks words that are supplied from the throne room of God’s power.
Therefore, you must pray that your pastor should be blessed with utterance at all times:
Ephesians 6:19-20 AMPC
[19] And [pray] also for me, that [freedom of] utterance may be given me, that I may open my mouth to proclaim boldly the mystery of the good news (the Gospel), [20] For which I am an ambassador in a coupling chain [in prison. Pray] that I may declare it boldly and courageously, as I ought to do.
When a man God has blessed with utterance speaks, every example can be a prophecy:
Numbers 24:15 NKJV
[15] So he took up his oracle and said: “The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor, And the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened;
A dear pastor shared about how he was in a meeting and the preacher was giving an example. The preacher said, “For instance, if they take you to a white house in Ikoyi and offer you a job, that is the end of your ministry”. That was the exact thing that happened to him. He knew instantly that he must turn down the offer.
When there is utterance, there are times that the matters you want to see the pastor for after service are already addressed by examples in the teaching. You know that it was not head knowledge.
I was in a class battling God’s call to full-time ministry and my pastor said, “For instance, God is calling Ola into full-time ministry”. I had not discussed what God told me with a ‘bird’ but the Lord brought it forth as an illustration. Wow!
When there is an utterance, your pastor hears the words of God with a free flow of insight and clarity of vision. He speaks like he is a master craftsman painting a life portrait of situations.
Numbers 24:16 NKJV
[16] The utterance of him who hears the words of God, And has the knowledge of the Most High, Who sees the vision of the Almighty, Who falls down, with eyes wide open.
There is nothing as amazing as a pastor that the Lord has blessed with utterance.
By the way, utterances are not smooth words. No! Even when they do not come out smoothly, they come out full of the spirit and power. Do not ever replace what the Lord said with smooth words. Never!
Isaiah 30:9-10 AMP
[9] For this is a rebellious people, lying sons, Sons who refuse to listen to The law and instruction of the Lord; [10] Who say to the seers, “You must not see visions from God”; And to the prophets, “You must not prophesy to us what is right! Speak to us pleasant things and smooth words, Prophesy [deceitful] illusions [that we will enjoy].
Utterance does not have to be pleasant!
