OVERCOMING PORN ADDICTION 6

When he confessed how much he had struggled with porn which has also led to other strange vices because of the appetite that has been created, and that he was struggling hard to break the pattern.  I had to teach him the principle of saying (not thinking) “No” when the desire comes to his mind.

It was initially hard practising but as he continued to say (not just think) “No”, the pattern of falling cheaply was broken.  When he began to see the joy and peace he had for a while, he pushed harder for more until the rewiring process was complete.  He was free from the strange vices.

Let’s say it the hard way: Obedience to the flesh brought you into the slavery to pornography. It will only be obedience to the Spirit that will keep you free from it.

Why? You become a slave of whoever you choose to obey. When you kept obeying that prompt of sin to watch porn and masturbate, your resistance was broken, and your brain began to adjust to the strange desire.

When a learner is trying to drive, they have all their focus on the wheel. Sometimes, a learner will have to look down at the gear before changing it. But once it is mastered, it becomes so easy. He can drive and pick a call while still sipping a drink even though it is dangerous. The brain has been rewired.

Continual exposure to porn and the strange pleasure you derive from it kickstarted a process of rewiring your brain.  To be free, you need an entire overhaul. Thank God for deliverance but we must not forget to point you to discipline. 

Apostle Paul mentioned this:

Romans 6:16 NLT

[16] Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.

“Become”- it tells you about process. It was process that took you there. It has to be broken but it takes obedience to another process to break you out also.

You must be willing to obey the prompts of the Spirit:

Romans 6:17-18 NLT

[17] Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. [18] Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.

This shall be your testimony.
