HOW “COMMON SENSE” HINDERS FAITH

HOW “COMMON SENSE” HINDERS FAITH

Some two years into marriage, we really desired to have a Toyota Camry. We prayed about it. One evening, while driving back home, I had an unusual prompt to call a close family member and ask if they wanted to sell their Toyota Camry.

I told myself, “How on earth would they be selling their car? They just finished a major project and moved into a new house.  That must have been a major expense. They cannot in any way be selling their car now”. I dropped the idea, and I did not call.

Two weeks later, I visited and I saw that they have two new cars. I asked my aunt, “Ma, where is your Camry?” She said, “We sold it just two weeks ago. There was no way we would be keeping two new cars with the former ones”. I bit my tongue and beat myself.

“Why did I not call even if it feels like it was not making sense?” I learnt my lesson the hard way. I would have gotten the car for a “give-away” price.

On the journey of faith, be on the lookout for divine instructions that will come as simple prompts. Thoughts will take off from heaven and land in your “heartport”. Do not discountenance them.

A beloved one said that while he trusted the Lord for a new car, he had a prompt to make a stop by with a couple while he was on a trip to another city. He had not seen this couple for some years, and it felt weird. But he obeyed. As he stepped into their house, the mother of the house was surprised. The husband actually thought the wife had called him. She did not.

What was the deal? They had an instruction to give away their car a day earlier. They had two people in mind – a pastor in their city and this beloved one who lived in another city. Since they were not sure, they concluded that “the one who shows up first gets the car”. It was this beloved one, who had not seen them for a while and lived outside their city, who showed up first.  Why? He obeyed a prompt. He did not commonsensically push the thoughts away.

Could those thoughts you discarded have been a flight from heaven to your heart for guidance to your much-needed answers?

If you explain away why filling pots with water would meet the need of a party seeking wine, you would never see wine.

If you explain away how five loaves and two fish would ever be useful in feeding a crowd, you will never see the bread multiplied nor the crowd fed.

Listen to this:

Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT

[8] “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. [9] For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

But guess what? His words never return to Him void:

Isaiah 55:11 NLT

[11] It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

Stop allowing common sense to hinder your walk of faith. If you have heard the Lord, follow through. You will understand Him in retrospect.  Simply trust Him.
