“DADDY, I CANNOT CARRY IT”

“DADDY, I CANNOT CARRY IT”

Some months back, I stayed at work till later in the evening. I was expecting Irewamiri to come pick me up. I was calling her, but she did not pick up the call. I was getting worried. Then I called one of the young ladies at home. She said, “Daddy, Mummy just left now. The car got stuck at the gate”.

Apparently, the impact had damaged the body of the car. I was already angry imagining what I spent to fix the body of the car just a week earlier. I knew once she got to the office, I would likely display the anger. I said a simple prayer, “Holy Spirit, help me”.

I tried my best, but still did not get it totally right because I still displayed a little touch of anger. I focused on the car first after casually greeting my wife. I was even expecting her to say, “I am sorry so and so happened” first. That was what got me offended, I guess. Things became a bit tense, but eventually we rode the storms. I now wonder how terrible it would have been if I had not asked the Holy Spirit for help.

Many times, we abandon the help of the Holy Spirit. We resort to managing issues in our strength and wisdom. It does not work. The Lord is always available to help us, but our emotions get the better of us. We explode when help is standing by. We sulk, yet help was available. We withdraw from our spouse, yet help is available. Our pride keeps us away from the help the Lord is offering us.

You are already breaking under the load of the issues, but asking the Lord for help is the last thing on your mind. Even when you ask, you want him to do it your way.  You have forgotten that He is Lord (not your boyfriend)

The Prophet Isaiah told us:

Isaiah 41:10 NLT

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

In order to teach my daughters about the help of God from this scripture, we had a little demonstration. They stretched out their hands while I placed one book after the other on them. They tried behaving powerfully till the load became too much. They would then say, “Daddy, I cannot carry it”. I would then relieve them of the load.

Beloved, when will you tell Daddy God that “Daddy, I cannot carry it”? When will you release that anger? When will you release that hurt? When will you release that bitterness? When will you stop blaming everyone for your poor responses? When will you stop saying “He made me angry” or “She made me do it”? When will you accept the help of God? Do not live under a veil. Go to Daddy and tell Him, “I cannot carry it again”.

Be free from anger.

Be free from hurt.

Be free from bitterness.

Be free from the burdens.

Help is available.

Will you use it?
