DO NOT LEAVE OUT MERCY
As children, we would take turns riding bicycles down the long corridor of our neighbour’s home. On one such day, it had just stopped raining a few minutes earlier when our quest for adventure began.
One of the older ones began to showcase his riding skills, making turns around the pillar. Before we knew what was happening, on one of the turns, he slipped and fell. I still remember the bread in his mouth coming out as he fell.
Beloved, those who fall always think they are too skillful to fail. It is great to be confident, but it is folly to be overconfident.
“Saul and Jonathan were beloved and pleasant in their lives, And in their death they were not divided; They were swifter than eagles, They were stronger than lions.”
II Samuel 1:23 NKJV
Speed is beautiful.
Skill and strength are great.
But do not joke with His mercy.
That verse was written about two strong and skillful men who still died in battle.
You have entered this year with great drive and skill. That is beautiful, but acknowledge the place of God’s grace as well.
Build your skill.
Build strength.
Don’t forget to cry for mercy.
Why?
“I returned and saw under the sun that— The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.”
Ecclesiastes 9:11 NKJV
It is not a justification for mediocrity but an invitation to lean on the mercy of God.
