DO NOT REMOVE THE STRAINER
We just realised that the water in the kitchen sink would not flow out. Even when it drains, it would take a lot of time. By the time we got a plumber to check, there were blockages. Things that had no business being washed into the sink were finding their way there.
Someone did not realise how important that tiny net-like covering (the strainer) was. That tiny thing could look like a burden when washing, but it ensures the food remnants do not find their way into the drain. When you finish washing, the remnants are to be gathered and disposed of differently.
At times, you can feel like it is a burden that is not making the work fast enough. When you remove it, the water may flow away faster, but gradually, substances that have no business in the drain also flow there.
It looks insignificant in the beginning because you can still wash. But over time, the damage begins to show. The sink is blocked because the pipe is blocked. You can also see water seeping out from unnecessary points. Why? Someone felt the strainer was a waste of time!
Beloved, the Word of God is like a strainer in our lives. We keep the Word of God in our hearts so that sin would not have a passage into our lives.
“How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart, I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”
Psalms 119:9-11 NKJV
When the strainer is intact, you will hear certain songs, and you will know that this is not for me as a child of God. When the strainer is intact, you will be quick to keep away anger, malice and every trace of offence. You know it will clog the flow of the Spirit in your life.
What things are already gaining entrance into your heart that are not meant to be there? Have you taken the “strainer” for granted?
Put the strainer back in place today!
