FAVOUR CAN “DISORGANIZE” YOUR PLAN
After my service year, I planned to take a three weeks break. It was meant to be a vacation trip outside the country. Everything was going on as planned when one morning, the Lord said to me, “Johannesburg. No! Go to where I have sent you”.
It was hard to explain to everyone who was supporting the process and was also expecting my visit. It was hard to explain but God must be obeyed. I returned to Eruwa the next day in obedience to the Lord. Now it is ten years and I can say “The call of the Lord is a call of honour”.
When the angel of the Lord called unto Mary, the first thing that the angel said is, “And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.”
Luke 1:28 KJV
And when Mary was still wondering, the angel saluted her a second time:
“And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.” Luke 1:30 KJV
We need to realise at this time that Mary was preparing to get married to Joseph. What was it that the angel called favour? Mary becoming pregnant in a humanly unexplainable and incomprehensible way. That can never be our definition of favour. Humanly speaking, her plans have just been divinely disrupted. She has just been placed in a difficult situation.
What did the angel call favour? It was a separation to a divine assignment.
First, everything God has called you to is a call of favour. The calling of God to do a thing is a form of honour.
And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
Hebrews 5:4 KJV
Second, favour of God will not always come in a way you expect. A lot of times when we pray, we also want to prescribe to God the way that He should answer us. Therefore, when the answer comes, we do not know that it is the answer that has come. It is possible to be fighting God’s answers for you. You can resist the answers to your prayers without knowing.
Joseph would have been praying that the vision of God should come to pass regarding the dreams he had but he would not have thought that the conspiracy in Potiphar’s house was an answer to that prayer. Sometimes, a sack letter can be divine favour.
Look through scriptures, God’s ways are not our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Divine disruptions and interruptions will always be a part of the journey of the one that the Lord has placed His hands upon.
What looks disrupted now? Look beyond the situation. Can you see His hand? Oftentimes than not, we understand God in retrospect. Trust the Lord even when you do not understand him. All things will turn out for your good.
