OUR NOISY BLENDER AND THE LESSON FROM OLIVE

Whenever we need to use the blender in the kitchen, it makes a good grinding sound. Anytime a young boy visits us, he would begin to cry at the sound of the blender. We started locking the doors or getting the boy far away first. 

Olive also hates the noise. She would go to the kitchen and tell anyone using it that “the noise is much. Close the door” or she closes the door by herself. It is worse when they are having their weekend television time. In order to concentrate, she will always shut out the noise. This is quite instructive for me as a child of God.

First, we are in a very noisy world. The noise is getting amplified by the day. There is the noise of politics and all the arguments. There is the noise of lewd songs and all the strange things it promotes. There is the noise of entertainment also. There is the noise of systems that are also broken. The Bible tells us the world is also noisy: 

That’s the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world, The perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic.

Psalms 27:5 MSG

For instance, I took time to check the lyrics of some popular songs and I realised the poison that is being released into the atmosphere of people’s minds. The noise is really loud. 

Second, God will not compete with the noise in your life. You will be the one to get away from the noise to get His voice. You will need to be conscious of it. Jesus said something about prayer: 

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father…

Matthew 6:6 NKJV

You have to shut the door against distraction and all the noise so you can focus on the Father. The noise will get louder in these last days, do not get carried away.

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.

1 Peter 4:7 NIV

You will need to be deliberate with shutting out the noise. I know some believers who have taken social media breaks. They now “fast” social media so they can strengthen their walk with God. 

There is a great work of seduction that is going on. It is not strange. What is strange is that the very elect, even believers are being successfully deceived.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,

I Timothy 4:1 NKJV

When last did you take a personal retreat?

Are you now finding it convenient to defend what your spirit will normally resist? 

Are you now grooving to music without sensitivity to what is being transferred?

Are you now more trend-focused than Christ-focused? 

What noise do you need to shut out?
