ADULTERY DAMAGES YOUR CHURCH

ADULTERY DAMAGES YOUR CHURCH

“Pastor, my siblings used to be very committed to their local church. They literally carried Christ and the Church on their head, but none of them want to have anything to do with the church anymore”, I could pick the pain in the words of this beloved one.

“What happened?” I queried. “I am not too sure, but from what I gathered from them, “The pastor fell into sexual sins and tried to cover it for a long while, but the truth came out”.

Adultery damages the church!

Another leader shares about how an adulterous affair between two leaders in the church led to a dangerous crisis.

All you need to see is the comment section of any news that has to do with the fall of any prominent believer, and you will see the damage that adultery does to the church, especially your church.

A police officer stopped me once, and I introduced myself as a pastor. He said, “Even pastors cannot be trusted.” I wonder what a pastor had done to him.

When a believer does astoundingly well, the church is proud. We think about Daniel in the corridors of the palace at Babylon, representing Christ, or about Esther in the corridors of Susa, standing for the Lord. However, when a believer falls, it becomes a major weapon in the enemy’s hands.

There are people who are already looking for excuses to point a finger and discredit the church. When a Christian engages in adultery, he rubs fuel on the body and hands a lighter over to the enemy.

When it is a church member, it is bad enough. When it is a church leader, it is hurting. When it is a church pastor, it leaves a massive wound. There are some who do not recover from it.

Paul warned the Ephesian church, and by extension, he warned us too:

Ephesians 5:3 NIVUK
[3] But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.

The Corinthian church was stained by sexual sin:

1 Corinthians 5:1-2 TPT
[1-2] It’s been widely reported that there is gross sexual immorality among you—the kind of immorality that’s so revolting it’s not even tolerated by the social norms of unbelievers. Are you proud of the fact that one of your men is having sex with his stepmother? Shouldn’t this heartbreaking scandal bring you to your knees in tears? You must remove the offender from among you!

He warned the Corinthian Church:

1 Corinthians 10:8, 12 NIVUK
[8] We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did – and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.
[12] So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!

Adultery damages the church. It is a massive blow. Do not let your unguarded fleshly drive damage the body of Christ. Be careful.
