DEAR FATHER, RAISE A GENERATION THAT IS STRONGER THAN YOURS
I had to represent my Dad at an event a couple of years ago. When it was time to speak, I was asked to speak on his behalf. One of those in the meeting said, “You have spoken exactly how your Dad would have said it”. When I returned to give Dad an update, he said to me, “Son, you have done it like your Father”. He gave me a gift, also. I could do it that way because he raised us well.
In every generation, there are flows. There are negative flows and there are positive flows.
One example of positive flow is the flow of sincere faith that we saw at work in the life of Timothy. Paul mentioned it in his letter to Timothy, his spiritual son.
2 Timothy 1:5 NLT
[5] I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.
One example of a negative flow is what you saw in the life of Abiathar the priest. It started flowing from the time of Eli. Eli raised a generation that was weak- Hophni and Phinehas. This brought a curse upon their lineage of priesthood.
There was a strong lineage of priesthood from the days of Aaron:
1 Samuel 2:28 NLT
I chose your ancestor Aaron from among all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer sacrifices on my altar, to burn incense, and to wear the priestly vest as he served me. And I assigned the sacrificial offerings to you priests.
Eli weakened it by raising a generation that had no regard for the Lord and the honour of the priesthood:
1 Samuel 2:12 NLT
[12] Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels who had no respect for the Lord
What was the judgment of the Lord?
1 Samuel 2:31 NLT
The time is coming when I will put an end to your family, so it will no longer serve as my priests. All the members of your family will die before their time. None will reach old age.
When was this prophecy fulfilled? In the days of Solomon:
1 Kings 2:27 NLT
[27] So Solomon deposed Abiathar from his position as priest of the Lord, thereby fulfilling the prophecy the Lord had given at Shiloh concerning the descendants of Eli.
One of the things that you must ensure as a father is that the positive flow from you to the next generation gets stronger and stronger, while you do everything in your power to ensure that you do not partner with the enemy to weaken the next generation.
Partner with the Lord to raise a generation that is stronger than you. Partner with the Lord to raise a generation that will run the race of the kingdom.
What kind of generation will you raise?
