DO NOT LOSE YOUR CHILD
Years ago, there was a beloved young one who did not know what it meant to be satisfied. She would eat as much as she could. You would see clearly that her stomach is full, but she was indulging heavily. The parents even laughed over it at times. They believed they had a child who ate well. They said, “She is just a child”.
The story did not end that well. What began with food soon spread to a lack of restraint in many other areas. What did they forget to teach their child? Delayed gratification.
One of the first mistakes in raising a child is the thinking that “He is just a child” or “She does not know what she is doing”. I have seen children act in strange ways, and the parents just overlook it.
Every tree that will bear fruit must be pruned. Culture boldness so it does not become insubordination. Culture his appetite so it does not become greed. The most beautiful flowers can grow wild where there is no culturing. If you want the beauty to emerge, you must know how to apply the shears.
You train up a child. Training involves doing things that are not convenient, sometimes, both for you and the child. When we saw that our first daughter would follow anyone holding a phone, we decided to do without phones once we were home. We would rather spend time bonding with her. It helped.
The training is easier when they are still children. I see people who missed out on training a child not trying really hard to woo a teenager. If you want a teenager who would not depart from you and the way of the Lord, invest heavily in training a child.
Do not be in a hurry to give them to grandparents and gadget-parents; get them grounded in bonding and learning from you. It takes time, but invest in their childhood. Put the seed in while they are malleable. You will reap the harvest when they are old.
Proverbs 22:6 MSG
Point your kids in the right direction— when they’re old they won’t be lost.
Do not lose your child. They are not too young to be trained. Do not overlook any matter. Train!
