THE DISCIPLINE OF THE CALLED 1
When the ministry office opened in that roadside shop thirteen years ago, I knew that I had no option but to be disciplined with the work. There was no way I would leave the legal profession to a higher calling to Eruwa and do less.
I would dress up formally and get to the office very early. I was so serious that people started stopping by to see the lawyer but were shocked to meet a minister.
You can be called into Ministry by the election of Grace, but you fulfil Ministry by Discipline.
Colossians 4:17 NKJV
And say to Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfil it.”
The called must be disciplined. The called needs the anointing but also needs the discipline. The anointing has its place and discipline has its place.
Jesus said clearly that ministry is the Father’s business. It is not something to treat anyhow. You cannot be called and be lazy. You cannot be called and disorganized with life and ministry. Jesus was disciplined with his routine. Champions are known for their faith routine. Do you have a routine as the called? Great men are not just led by feelings and emotions. They are men of commitment.
To date, I face my work so passionately that I have no idea of some things going on. There is no time for gossip. There is no time for irrelevant talk. The work is the alarm clock.
David was anointed but indiscipline affected him. Samson was heavily anointed, but he lacked discipline. Anointing without discipline will become a disaster. Indiscipline can destroy in the twinkle of an eye what anointing has built.
Discipline is responding to your calling as demanded not as desired. It is living in inconvenience and not just in comfort. Discipline is self-control. It is paying today to play later. Discipline is the ability to say No.
Are you giving the calling what is demanded?
Are you doing it conveniently or as commanded?
Are you paying the price or playing with the future?
Are you saying Yes to everything?
You will fulfil destiny.
