THE HUSBAND THAT WILL BE RESPECTED 6
Late that evening, my aunt told my Dad that her own aged Dad has refused to sleep till he sees my Dad. He told them he would stay up till we arrived, even though it was past his sleeping time. He told his daughter, “I am not sure they make men like that again. He is a rare man”. When we got in that night, he still repeated the same statement. We knew why!
The husband who will be respected is the one who knows that his decisions may be personal, but they have a generational impact. This husband knows that he cannot make rash decisions. He processes and makes quality decisions. He does not make decisions emotionally.
I believe that one of the reasons why God chose certain women was because of the wisdom to make quality decisions resident in their husbands. For instance, God must have chosen Mary because of the kind of man that Joseph was.
Joseph was a man of quality decisions. He would not rush into making any decision, no matter how hard it seemed at the moment or even how hurt he was. When Mary told Joseph that she was pregnant and it was by the Holy Ghost, let us see the attitude of Joseph:
First, he was a kind man. Even though he could not understand Mary, he still would not disgrace her for any reason.
Matthew 1:19 ERV
Mary’s husband, Joseph, was a good man. He did not want to cause her public disgrace, so he planned to divorce her secretly.
Some men would embarrass their wives publicly. They talk to them like they are babies or unwise. They wash their dirty linen in public. They are not sensitive enough to know what to say and not to say. They joke about the weaknesses of their spouse publicly. It is not appropriate. Joseph may be annoyed, but he would still respect Mary. Some men would say and do anything once they are angry. Even in disagreement, you must be a man of dignity.
Second, he was a thoughtful man. His thinking allowed God to step in. He had room for the Lord to intervene.
Matthew 1:20 ERV
But after Joseph thought about this, an angel from the Lord came to him in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to accept Mary to be your wife. The baby inside her is from the Holy Spirit.
Finally, he would never cross boundaries. He did not say to Mary, “At least you are now pregnant, even though you claim you are still a virgin, then I can sleep with you too”. He was not that kind of man.
Matthew 1:25 ERV
But Joseph did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And he named him Jesus.
If God were looking for a Joseph kind of husband today, would he find you?
