THE HUSBAND THAT WILL BE RESPECTED (9)
When I picked up her call, she was already angry. The things her husband had done had really infuriated her. It was not even the first time. He had promised that it would not happen again. After her narration, she said, “Let me confess, I slapped him because I knew he was lying and covering up his tracks again”.
A father in the faith, while introducing a book on Sexual Purity to pastors, said, “This is a very important book for you as ministers of the gospel. I do not have to say much to you. Make up your mind that you will never touch the gold, the glory and the girls of Zion”. A man who falls into sexual sin loses respect.
It is very clear in the scriptures:
Proverbs 6:26 NKJV
For by means of a harlot A man is reduced to a crust of bread; And an adulteress will prey upon his precious life.
This happened to the man after God’s Heart- David. David was a man who was greatly respected.
Here was how he was introduced as a young man:
“Then one of the servants answered and said, “Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the Lord is with him.””
I Samuel 16:18 NKJV
He was introduced with such admiration. Even after he killed Goliath, he commanded the respect of the king, his prince, the army and the nation.
1 Samuel 18:6-7 NKJV
Now it had happened as they were coming home, when David was returning from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women had come out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy, and with musical instruments. [7] So the women sang as they danced, and said: “Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.”
David lost all this respect right after he fell into adultery with Bathsheba.
2 Samuel 11:2-4 NKJV
Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. [3] So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” [4] Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house.
He lost the respect of His men, starting with Joab:
2 Samuel 12:26-29 NLT
[26] Meanwhile, Joab was fighting against Rabbah, the capital of Ammon, and he captured the royal fortifications. [27] Joab sent messengers to tell David, “I have fought against Rabbah and captured its water supply. [28] Now bring the rest of the army and capture the city. Otherwise, I will capture it and get credit for the victory.” [29] So David gathered the rest of the army and went to Rabbah, and he fought against it and captured it.
He lost the respect of his sons. Ammon thought there was no need to speak to the King about marriage. He raped Tamar. Absalom disregarded King David and tagged him incompetent to the people. Despite it all, David lost the power to confront and correct. His house was falling apart.
Even Ahitophel, his trusted adviser, removed King from his name and called him by his first name:
2 Samuel 17:1 NLT
[1] Now Ahithophel urged Absalom, “Let me choose 12,000 men to start out after David tonight.
Imagine the very King David being publicly stoned:
2 Samuel 16:6-7 NLT
He threw stones at the king and the king’s officers and all the mighty warriors who surrounded him. [7] “Get out of here, you murderer, you scoundrel!” he shouted at David.
When a man loses respect, everything collapses. Listen, beloved, sexual sin is not worth it. Anytime and every time sexual lust grips your soul, run! It is not worth it.
