IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR MERCY

IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR MERCY

There was a need for a little adjustment on a photo frame in my office. It needed nail work. When the nail was about to be pulled out, I asked if there was a need to give room. The beloved one said, “No, sir. It is just a little work”. He pulled out the nail.

But then I had a prompt from the Holy Spirit saying, “Stand up from where you are. Excuse him so he can do the work”. I did. Some minutes later, I strolled back inside, and he said, “Sir, thank God you stood up”. I was puzzled. He then added, “As I was hammering at the nail, it flew off forcefully and landed right on the chair you stood up from”.

This meant that if I were still sitting there, the nail would have injured me. It was the mercy of the Lord that preserved me. What if I did not obey?

The mercy of the Lord is a divine agency of preservation. That is exactly what the Psalmist meant when he wrote these words:

““If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,” Let Israel now say—”

Psalms 124:1 NKJV

Mercy is the Lord on your side when the opposition of men would have swallowed you:

““If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, When men rose up against us, Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us;”

Psalms 124:2-3 NKJV

Mercy is the Lord on your side when situations of life would have overwhelmed you. He kept you from drowning:

“Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, The stream would have gone over our soul; Then the swollen waters Would have gone over our soul.””

Psalms 124:4-5 NKJV

It was mercy that created a window of escape when you could have ended up a prey:

“Blessed be the Lord, Who has not given us as prey to their teeth. Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; The snare is broken, and we have escaped.”

Psalms 124:6-7 NKJV

Mercy is called “The Help of the Lord”.

“Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”

Psalms 124:8 NKJV

What if that prompt you are ignoring is God’s mercy that you are taking for granted? What if that is God’s way of divine preservation? May you not abuse His mercy.

Do you have some “If it had not been for the mercy of the Lord” testimonies? Thank God for it.
