DON’T TAKE A BREAK

I sat in front of my spiritual father and requested that I would love to learn from him. That was in my second year of ministry. I started out well. But it did not take long before I started making excuses why I could not make the monthly ministers meeting where he teaches us. My visit to him also dropped drastically.

After almost a year, the Holy Spirit rebuked me heavily in the place of devotion. I sent him a text sharing how the Holy Spirit rebuked me, requesting to see him and apologising for the distance. His response was fatherly, “Naughty Boy. Good for you. See you soon”.

(I made decisions that I later regretted in the season I took a break from learning)

Beloved, following is one of God’s instruments of shaping and making. One of the mistakes you can make in life is to be a lone ranger. It amounts to a disaster in life and destiny when a man has no one that he is following.

But much more, there are people who have been following but have drawn back from their teachers and trainers. When you withdraw from learning, you lose ground.

Kindly note, when you take a break from following, do not return with a sense of entitlement. Those who are faithful in following would definitely become your teachers. Be humble enough to learn from them.

John Mark began to follow but decided that he needed a break. He wanted to return as if nothing happened. Paul resisted that move. He ended up going with Barnabas. Paul went with Silas and took on Timothy. Timothy did not joke with following a bit. He attained heights that John Mark did not.

Elisha did not take a break in following Elijah. He was so faithful that his colleagues called him “the one who poured water on the hands of Elijah”. Beloved, it was just a matter of time, Elijah’s exit made them realise the person to follow now was Elisha.

I want to challenge someone today who has taken a break from following- the more you postpone making that call or that visit to rekindle that learning relationship, the tougher it will become. You will rationalize yourself out of destiny training. Do not do it. Stop making excuses- reconnect today.

I made that bold call and I reconnected. I don’t ever get to miss that monthly ministers meeting with my Spiritual Father. There are times I have legitimate excuses not to attend. I simply ask myself, “Am I as busy as he is?” Even when he is not around physically, it does not matter. I learn with diligence from his associates.

You cannot tap into the riches of God’s wisdom in the life of a trainer with a poor attitude. You cannot attain the fullness you desire with an attitude of a part-time learner.

Beloved, reconnect to your trainers. You are not doing them a favour. It is simply for your own good. When you find your God-ordained trainer, hold on to them. Take the posture of a learner. Grow fast. Follow their examples as Paul wrote of Timothy:

“But you, Timothy, certainly know what I teach, and how I live, and what my purpose in life is. You know my faith, my patience, my love, and my endurance. You know how much persecution and suffering I have endured.” 2 Timothy 3:10‭-‬11 NLT

Do not follow the fashion of your trainer, follow their faith, patience, love, endurance. Follow the fruits. Follow the teaching. Do not take a break!
