THINGS THAT WASTE (1)- POOR LEADERSHIP

I once had a student whose mother came to complain about. She said, “I have not been around for a while. I travelled. It was on my return this morning that my husband mentioned that our son had not been sleeping at home. He only comes home to wear his uniform every morning. But he had not seen him in about three days”.

I was shocked as to the kind of father that man was. He did not see his son in days and he was not bothered. The boy dropped out of school.

The decision of a father has a generational impact. Poor leadership will always lead to wastage of resources- human, financial, and material amongst others.

The decision of Elimelech to go into Moab in the season of famine wasted the next generation:

Then Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons. Then both Mahlon and Chilion also died; so the woman survived her two sons and her husband.
Ruth 1:3‭, ‬5 NKJV

It did not just waste the next generation, it emptied the wife of her capacities and potential:

But she said, “Don’t call me Naomi; call me Bitter. The Strong One has dealt me a bitter blow. I left here full of life, and God has brought me back with nothing but the clothes on my back. Why would you call me Naomi? God certainly doesn’t. The Strong One ruined me.”

The devil can leverage bad leadership in a home to waste a whole generation. Bad leadership in a nation will also lead to waste. There will be people dying for avoidable reasons. There will be a loss of potential.

Paul admonished Timothy thus:

The first thing I want you to do is to pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.
1 Timothy 2:1‭-‬3 MSG

When leaders lead badly at home, in an organization, in church or in a nation, there are always heavy losses.

At home, wives pray for your husband. Children pray for your father. At work, pray for your bosses. Stand in the gap for your pastors. When the shepherd is hit, the sheep are impacted. Pray for national leaders also.

When Saul killed the Gibeonites out of personal zeal, seven of his sons were killed years later (2 Sam. 21) A man called Hiel of Bethel took the wrong job from Ahab of rebuilding Jericho, he lost two sons on the project. (2 Kings 16:34).

I pray for every man today: You will lead right. You will not be the harbinger of evil in your dwelling. You will be a husbandman indeed. You will groom your home to strength.
