THE POWER OF PARENTAL SACRIFICES

The Lord reminded me of something recently: There was a night when two strangers knocked on the door of our home. This was very late in the night. It was about 10 pm or after. They told my parents that they were ministers of the gospel who were stranded in town. 

At the car park, they explained their ordeal and someone told them that if they can get to the house of Olas, they would find a place to stay since they were ministers of the gospel. It was shocking. My parents played host to many ministers of the gospel who come to town for outreach, crusades and even student fellowship meetings at times. 

That night, we accommodated total strangers. They informed our neighbours who came around to greet our visitors. They were precautionary safety steps. But that night, my parents stayed awake till the wee hours of the morning when our guests left. 

Why am I sharing this? There is nowhere I get to that I get stranded. People have opened their homes for me. There are times that someone will say the accommodation I was given was not good enough and would book amazing spaces for me. I have enjoyed the favour of the Lord. 

While meditating on this recently, the Lord reminded me of how my parents played host to ministers of the gospel in their own little way. I knew at that moment that the privileges I was enjoying were rooted in the sacrifices of my parents. Their sacrifice has become my testimony. 

One thing I would love to emphasize today is that sacrifices are generational. Every sacrifice is a seed. The sacrifice of Abraham can unlock the blessings of Isaac and Jacob. Hear the words of David: 

Now David said, “Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” 

II Samuel 9:1 NKJV 

The sacrifices of Jonathan became the blessing of Mephiboseth. Deeds are seeds. Good deeds or bad deeds have a generational impact. If men forget to honour sacrifices, heaven does not forget. 

When sacrifices are remembered, help will always show forth. Can I say this prayer over you today? 

May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you; May He send you help from the sanctuary, And strengthen you out of Zion; May He remember all your offerings, And accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah
