A SINGLE COUNSEL CAN HELP YOUR JOURNEY

A SINGLE COUNSEL CAN HELP YOUR JOURNEY

After our conversation that morning, He said to me after our discussion about ministry and life, “Son, I am sending you back to go and reorganize the ministry”. He told me the things to do and I followed it through judiciously. As a matter of fact, I am still following through with that counsel till now. It changed the face of ministry.

At another point, a dear Father in the Faith told me, “Let me tell you the mistake I made in the first sixteen years of ministry”.

Thank God for the grace to confess but thank God also for the power of counsel.

Friends, you must understand the equation for growth. Confession is one part of it. Counsel is the other part. If all you do is confess, you will gather so much potential power that will likely not turn around to any major impact.

You must know how to add counsel to your confession. One of the signs of a walk of faith is the presence of instructions. Abraham had instructions. Noah had instructions. Moses had instructions. If you are in faith for a thing, what instructions are you taking note of and applying? These instructions can come through men who have gone ahead of you in form of counsel.

Listen to Bildad in the book of Job:

“Though your beginning was insignificant, Yet your end will greatly increase.” JOB 8:7 AMP

This is probably the most confessed scripture when it comes to increase but we only do one part of the equation and expect results. It does not work that way.

Hear what Bildad said immediately after that famous scripture:

“Inquire, please, of past generations, And consider and apply yourself to the things searched out by their fathers. For we are only of yesterday and know nothing... Will they (the fathers) not teach you and tell you, And utter words from their hearts [the deepest part of their nature]?” JOB 8:8-10 AMP

Can you see where we miss it? Confession must be linked with counsel. You must inquire of the past generation. If you don’t learn from those who have gone ahead, you will not smell increase.

You must apply yourself to things searched out by the fathers. Do not waste their time if you won’t apply what you have learnt from them. Do not hang around fathers just for public relations stunt. The real men who have access do not go for pictures. They go for lessons and draw virtue.

Be humble. You were only of yesterday and know nothing. That should be your attitude. Don’t sit with a teacher and start pouring out all you think you know. You know nothing.

With the right attitude, do you know the response? They will teach you. They will tell you. They will utter words from their heart. That is how we provoke the blessing and enjoy increase.

Confess. Friends. Confess. Take counsel also. Friends, take counsel.

God bless you.
