APPRECIATE CORRECTION
When I saw her writing on the wall with a crayon, I paused what I was doing and said to the beloved three-year-old, “You don’t write on the wall. You can write on paper”. She squeezed her face in protest. I was shocked.
She then told me, “I will write on the wall”. When I saw she was insistent, I told her to hand over the crayon, she again insisted that she was not. I told her it was wrong to be disobedient. Afterwards, I collected the crayon from her.
She started crying and while consoling her, she said to me, “I don’t like correction”. I said, “Darling, correction is important”. She repeated it, “I don’t like correction”. I knew there was quite some work to do.
Beloved, you must appreciate corrections. It is a major part of your life’s journey. Correction can be tough on your ego, but it is essential for destiny fulfilment.
Just like in a classroom, you would have examples, classwork, corrections and then the homework or assignment, it is the same with life. People struggle with the assignment called “Life” because they ignore examples, and disregard correction.
When you accept correction, you gain understanding. When you struggle with it, you hate yourself.
Proverbs 15:32 ICB
A person who refuses correction hates himself. But a person who accepts correction gains understanding.
When you ignore correction, you set yourself up for disaster. You should love correction.
Proverbs 10:17 ICB
The person who accepts correction is on the way to life. But the person who ignores correction will be ruined.
I realised that my journey in life took an upward turn the moment my attitude to correction improved. I gained more from my Spiritual Parents, my teachers and my brothers who have gone ahead of me. They were even more open to sharing their knowledge and journey with me. It has saved me from a lot of trouble.
Proverbs 13:18 ICB
A person who refuses correction will end up poor and disgraced. But a person who accepts correction will be honored.
Amazingly, the same thing happened to our first daughter about the same age. She told us boldly, “Do not correct me. I do not like correction”. We had to start a one-on-one talk. Some months later, it all changed and to date, she says, “I love correction”.
There are men who would have done better with life, career, marriage, and ministry but ego has gotten in the way of their rising. They despise correction.
The proverbs say a man who refuses correction is stupid.
Proverbs 12:1 ICB
Anyone who loves learning accepts being corrected. But a person who hates being corrected is stupid.
That will never be me.
I am open to correction from today.
Lord, help my heart.
What about you?
