GRANDPA GAVE ME MY OFFERING

GRANDPA GAVE ME MY OFFERING

We were leaving Grandpa’s house late in the evening. We went to pick Danielle and Olive. As we stepped out, Grandpa gave both of them some mint notes as new year gifts.

Olive would rarely surrender money to you. The first shock I had was that she handed it over to me in the car and the next moment she said, “Grandpa gave me offering”. Those words struck me like light. For her now, money is offering.

If you read nothing today, let it settle in you that money is not your Lord, it is offering. Whatever the Lord has blessed you with is an offering. You must give it back to God. You are blessed in order to be a blessing.

Whatever you cannot give to God will eventually become an idol that you will bow to.

Follow this story:

Israel left Egypt with Gold and Silver:

The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing.
Exodus 12:35 NIV

They got it by favour:

The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.
Exodus 12:36 NIV

God told Moses on the Mount that they should give gold and silver as offerings to him:

“Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from everyone whose heart prompts them to give. These are the offerings you are to receive from them: gold, silver and bronze;”
Exodus 25:2‭-‬3 NIV

Before Moses came back from the Mountain. They were already using their Gold as raw materials to make an idol:

When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.” Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”
Exodus 32:1‭-‬4 NIV

They made an idol from the blessing of the Lord. They bowed to it. They abandoned and forsook God.

What has gotten your heart?
What has the Lord blessed you with that has become an idol?

Money and other things must never become your Lord. Refuse it!
