SAVINGS AND OPPORTUNITIES
We needed financial counselling. We were not shy to open up to our teachers. The patient that needs attention must not hide the wounds from the doctor. When we mentioned how we were becoming financially pressured and we do not even have any savings at all, the answer we got was liberating.
First, he did not mince words by showing us what the scriptures say about the man who spends everything. Do you know what the Bible calls him?
There are precious treasure and oil in the house of the wise [who prepare for the future], but a short-sighted and foolish man swallows it up and wastes it. Proverbs 21:20 AMP
And there is another like it: “Of what use is money in the hands of a fool when he has no desire to get wisdom” (Prov. 17:16)
If you spend everything that you earn, the Bible says you are shortsighted and foolish. That scripture brought about a mental reset immediately.
Beloved, do you know you would still survive if you earn less than you do now? Why don’t you then live lesser than you earn so you can save some?
The second lesson was simple- Without savings, we cannot harness opportunities. You will see opportunities but you will only wish you can maximize them. Without savings, can you buy a land that would have cost you millions of naira at a reduced ridiculous price? Sometimes, you have the opportunity to buy a good car at a cheap rate.
Without savings, you are shut out of opportunities. One of the things you should pray for in life is the grace to enjoy quality things at reduced rates. But prayer must be backed up with wisdom.
Do you spend all you have?
Do you save?
