THE ARTWORK ON THE WALL (The Power Of Generational Investments)
I was invited to speak in a meeting some years back. I was in the house of my host when he pointed to an artwork on the wall and said, “Your Dad and Mum gave me as a wedding gift. Those words are priceless. They shaped my value towards diligence”.
At that moment, it struck me that “Can my children sit one day and people point to the value that I have added to their lives in the presence of my children?” For me, it was a sobering thought.
Let it be known this day that there are doors and opportunities you will access in life simply because of sacrifices that a generation before you paid. There are doors that your skill did not open but the goodwill of men who travelled the same road before you.
Some men are way more skilful than you are who have been sitting at the entrance while you keep company with kings- do not take it for granted. There may just be a gift that outlives the moment hanging on the wall that you had no idea of!
David asked a powerful question from his men one day:
One day David asked, “Is there anyone left of Saul’s family? If so, I’d like to show him some kindness in honor of Jonathan.”
2 Samuel 9:1 MSG
Before you get too confident and develop a sense of entitlement, you need to sit down and ask “Who paid the price for the honour I am enjoying?” Make up your mind never to take such people for granted at all.
We must live our lives in such a way and manner that when our names are mentioned, it provokes honour, opens doors, invokes favour and shows credibility.
The simple question is “What is hanging on someone’s wall or maybe heart that will open doors for generations coming after you?”
What will your children be grateful for? What generational investments are you making?
