THINGS THAT WOULD HAVE KEPT ME AWAY FROM TOTAL OBEDIENCE (1)
Once I spoke about the call to settle and plant a church in Eruwa after my service year, a dear teacher of mine said to me, “Temi, I know the dreams you have. It should not be a big deal working for a while in the city while you begin some Outreach work in Eruwa. When the work grows, you can then relocate to settle in Eruwa finally”.
I loved the counsel. I took the counsel. Until a word of knowledge intercepted me in a church programme. It scattered it all. It was wisdom and genuine care but it was not God’s will.
One thing that will keep you away from the will of God for your life is tested human wisdom and genuine care that is actually not the will of God for your life.
When Jesus declared the mind of God about his death, Peter loved him genuinely and would not take such “negative speaking”.
From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”
Matthew 16:21-22 NKJV
Jesus was too sensitive to be distracted by the sentiments of Peter. He said:
“Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offence to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
Matthew 16:23 NKJV
Jesus showed us the litmus test of counsel: It is not “Is it good counsel or not?” It is “Is the counsel mindful of God’s plan for me or is it mindful of just my welfare?”
Subject all counsel ultimately to this test and you will not derail from the path of obedience by human wisdom coming from those who care genuinely about you.
