IS THAT RELATIONSHIP IN FAITH, OR ARE YOU JUST TAKING A RISK?
I had a dear friend that we both seemed to be getting pretty close. It was obvious we had a thing for one another. We loved to be in each other’s company. When away from each other, we kept a tab on each other. I knew where she would be per time. She had a tab on my schedule, too. We were sliding slowly into intimacy. It was sure that something was brewing.
But I had to settle something really fast; my soul and emotions seemed to be travelling faster than my spirit. I decided to build my spirit and allow it to pick divine signals while I turned down the distraction that my emotions would bring. I knew that we would do well as friends, but we would do poorly as a couple. Our direction was not the same. If I allowed the emotions to keep growing, I would get into trouble. I had to refrain till the emotions died.
Marriage is first a joining of spirits.
Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit Philippians 2:1 NKJV
If your spirit is not in sync and agreement with one another, what happened at the altar as you exchanged vows will turn into a prison, and you will likely be frustrated. The vows that are meant to be words you remember and rejoice over will become like a prison sentence flowing from the mouth of a judge.
Have you heard of the man who was watching their wedding pictures from the end back to the beginning? The curious wife was wondering why he did that. He replied that he was trying to see if he could turn back the hands of time and walk out of the union.
If you are a child of God, use your single years to groom your relationship with the Lord. Be a diligent student of the Word. Be sure of how God leads you. Master the art of prompt and complete obedience. This is priceless.
When marriage comprises two believers with a growing and glowing spirit, it becomes easier to walk in agreement. If the man did not hear the Lord to marry you, how will he hear the Lord who instructs on the way to go? Elimelech was a great family man, but a turn in the wrong direction in life cost him his entire family. Do you know when God is speaking?
Train your ears to hear and your heart to heed now. They are priceless assets in any marriage.
I do not blame those who say hearing God is out of vogue. Some believers are “spoiling the market.” Do not use your ability to hear God to manipulate a sister or brother. Do not start with witchcraft. So if she does not marry you, she must suffer in life? Bro. Apollos! Is that so? Stop using your ‘spiritual sharpness’ to injure the innocent sister who just admires your fervency.
In the day of challenges, the conviction you have received from hearing the Lord personally builds your confidence. You know that the Lord is with you. It really helps.
Finally, for the person who heard the Lord, it is faith. If you copy him or follow him without hearing, for you, it is a risk.
That relationship, is it in faith, or you are just taking a risk? The difference is revealed in the reception and strength of your spirit man. Do not take it for granted!
