IN THE MIDST OF PLENTY

Just as I was called for breakfast, I began to hurry up. As I stepped into the bathroom, the Holy Spirit reminded me that it was the day of the week that I normally separate to wait on God. It felt like an arrow pierced my stomach. The pain was real. The hunger became more intense.

Just then I opened my mouth and said, “Thank you Holy Spirit for reminding me. I am grateful”. But it was after then that the hunger became real. It was going to be a long day.

You may not know how it feels to have the king’s portion and Daniel and his friends have to “purpose” in their heart not to defile themselves with the king’s portion. Could they not have quoted, “Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies”? At least it was in Babylon.

There are things that are going to look extremely inviting and will test your consecration. You will have to say “No”.

One of the questions that Samson’s parents asked is “What will be his rule of life and work?”. Can you imagine Samson growing up and not cutting his hair and his mates are teasing him for such a bushy hair, he knows his destiny depends on it.

Can you imagine at a wedding ceremony in the midst of plenty and the scent of food, people keep looking at why you are smiling at the food instead of devouring it?

Our will to obey God will always be tested. There are things that are not necessarily sinful. They are only needful. Growth does not come cheap. The price of growth is responsibility.

The true test of our resolve to serve God is not always when we lack or we are in need. It is more in the season of abundance. My pastor taught me that, “You would not know how much of a sinner you can be until you have money. You need money to finance adultery”

Remember the charge of God to the Israelites about getting to the land and enjoying plenty. And he gives them this warning: “When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. “But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today.” Deuteronomy 8:10‭-‬11 NLT

Don’t get carried away in the midst of plenty. Let prosperity not become your slide out of a walk of consecration. It is easy to slip away from holiness. Stay watchful.
