TOKENS OF OBEDIENCE (6) – ENCOURAGEMENT WHEN IT IS MOST NEEDED
I was in one of the unforgettable moments in the early days of ministry. Things had happened that made me begin to doubt if I was doing it right. I knew I was obeying God but it was not adding up.
I was locked up in my room crying and worshipping when I had a gentle knock. Long story short, a father in the faith drove into my parents compound and when he heard that I was now back in town for ministry full time, he could not hold back his joy. He prayed his heart out over me.
On the journey of the call, there will be that moment that will become milestones. They are moments that God shows up mightily for you. There will always be tokens of encouragement:
You will have moments when financial and material supplies come in amazing ways. You need to listen to the testimonies of fathers. God used their pet dog to bring needed meat for family meals. God sends rain so they can gather snails.
You will have moments that the needed help will come as a word of encouragement. It can come from a father or even a friend. God can even use your spouse.
On the journey to kingship, David had such moments.
He had it with Samuel:
“So David fled and escaped, and went to Samuel at Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and stayed in Naioth.”
I Samuel 19:18 NKJV
He had it with Jonathan.
“And he said to him, “Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Even my father Saul knows that.”
I Samuel 23:17 NKJV
He had a great reminder from Abigail also. However, note that there are times it will have to come from within you. God will stir the waters of encouragement from within. Do not wait for external encouragement all the time.
There will be a time when there will be no Samuel, Jonathan or Abigail around. David had such too. What did he do?
“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”
1 Samuel 30:6 KJV
God will always plant milestones on your way. There will be tokens to look back on and say “God indeed is faithful”
