I asked a dear brother, “What books have you read recently that has caused a significant change in your mindset and has impacted your life?” I left our little chat with two things- a reignited passion for reading and a list of books to buy.

Books can be the difference between captivity and freedom. If you do not know what is written, you may not know what to ask for. The light you need for a breakthrough may be right in a book that you have refused to open.

The Israelites have settled down as exiles in Babylon for years. They definitely had adjusted to living there. They already had sons and daughters who even occupied political offices. However, there was someone who did not joke with reading- Daniel.

Daniel read in a book written by the Prophet Jeremiah that the years of captivity should be seventy years.

“in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years specified by the word of the Lord through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.”
Daniel 9:2 NKJV

The moment he made that discovery by reading, his disposition to captivity changed. Books can bring light into a dark season.

Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.
Daniel 9:3 NKJV

There are things you will enjoy until greater knowledge comes about such decisions. Daniel forgot his high ranking position the moment he understood the season. He understood the season by reading.

What have you mastered by reading? There are more books available to us in this generation than any other however there are distractions greater than the distractions of any other generation. Plan a reading time for yourself. Read things in and outside your field. Be a hungry reader. Consume knowledge. It will always end up showing. Get into reading. It is a life-changer.
