RELATIONSHIPS TO BE CAREFUL OF (1)

I had the reason to visit someone years ago to iron out a matter and remove all iota of doubt and misunderstanding. I was still quite young in the ministry. When I presented my side of an issue, the response I got shocked me. This dear one looked at me straight in the eyes and said, “We saw your good attitude and that is why we were helping you.”

It was simple. I had misbehaved and they would not help me again. They never helped again anyway. I cried at those words but I knew I would not go back there again.

Friends, beware of those who help you with the aim of making you lose your God-given identity. If they take the place of God in your life, you do not have a helper from God, you have an idol that you must worship.

They are like crutches you lean on when you are weak. You can almost do nothing without them. When God wants to help you, the first thing he does is remove all the crutches that you lean on. There will be some painful severance but it will be needed for destiny. It is for your good.

There can be a dimension of help that makes you forever dependent on men. The man at the beautiful gate needed his friends to carry him daily to beg for alms. He was so used to receiving alms that when greater help showed, all he wanted was still alms. Do you realise that he would be grateful for their help for the past years but he would not need that kind of help again?

There are handouts that you have become used to. Some men are like God in your life. God would not allow anyone to take His place in your life. Those crutches must go!

Listen, if you are a minister of the gospel- beware of the greetings, gifts and goodies of Balak. You must know your identity in God. You cannot be for the highest bidder. Ministry is not for sale. If you have a true calling from God, stay faithful. The one who made Moses a “god” to Pharaoh is still alive.

When the King sent for Daniel to solve a matter, he presented him with mouth-watering gifts up to a third of his kingdom.

And I have heard of you, that you can give interpretations and explain enigmas. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.”

 Daniel 5:16 NKJV

What was Daniel’s response?

Then Daniel answered, and said before the king, “Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another; yet I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

 Daniel 5:17 NKJV

Run from any relationship that distorts, or destroys your God-given identity. Run from any relationship that has become an idol in your life. Run from any relationship that can make you consider and reconsider your obedience to God. Those are not for you!
