THE TESTS IN THE CALLING 7
We had trusted the Lord for a new car for a while. Eventually one beautiful night, we got the blessing of a lovely new car. We rejoiced. It was a relief for trips and movements. It was our own little miracle.
Less than three months afterwards, the Lord told us to lay it down and sow it as a seed. It was an “Isaac” moment for us. We laid it down. There was no way or words to explain to anyone that we just gave away what we trusted God for many years.
Beloved, if you are called, you must pass the test of detachment from things. You must choose God above things. The time of such tests will come many times in the journey. You cannot make an idol of possessions and walk fully in all that God has in store for you.
As a matter of fact, the calling most times begin with laying something down. Everyone who was called left something behind. Peter left a boat full of fish behind to follow Jesus. His partners James and John did the same. Paul left all the credentials and regarded them as dung. Matthew left his source of income as a tax collector. There is no calling where you did not lay something down.
Beloved, you will learn to trust the Lord even when the instructions does not make any sense. It is your training. You will carry “Isaac” and lay “it” on the altar. It will be a pull, but you must pull through.
You will walk up Moriah, bringing your sacrifice. The joy is that it is not the same man who walks up that walks back down. Everyone looking on the outside sees the same thing. They see Abraham and Isaac return but there is a difference between the ones who went up the mount of sacrifice and the ones who came back.
What can God point to that you would not be able to let go? In the calling, you will choose God first many times again and again.
What is the promise of God to the one who lays it all down?
Peter helped to ask the Lord:
Mark 10:28 NLT
Then Peter began to speak up. “We’ve given up everything to follow you,” he said.
The Lord answered us:
Mark 10:29-30 NLT
“Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life.
May you receive grace to let it go! May nothing become an idol in your life.
